Swiss Alps Hike

I have found plenty of great looking day hikes in Switzerland. However, I am looking for suggestions on a continual 5 or 6 day hike. Huts or small towns are great - just want views and good food. We are in good shape, so do not let that hinder your suggestions. Thanks fit the help!

Go to slowtravel.com and look under Switzerland - trip reports - report #1021. The folks who wrote it did 2 weeks on a 100 mile hike and there are addironal references. Enjoy!

There is a standard route, the Alpine Pass Route, the traverses Switzerland east to west through the mountains, crossing numerous high passes and passing throuGh alpine villages on the way. You could pick up a copy of the book by that name , by Kev Reynolds, and choose a five or six day section. The sections that go to less-traveled areas and the most interesting. For example, the route goes from Grosse Scheidigg down to Grindelwald over Mannlichen to Wengem, down to Lauterbrunnen and up to Muerren, but you can cover all of that by train and lifts. Instead, start at Muerren and head over the Sefeinenfurke to Griesalp, up and over the Hohturli (high pass) and down to Oeschinensee, down to Kandersteg and into the neighboring valley, the Kandertal, up and over the Petergrat to the Lotschental. That would be a great hike. You can also look on MySwitzerland.com for suggestions for multi-daybhikes. You can book packages with lodging, luggage transfer, maps, etc. And hike at your own pace, with the planning all done for you.

You could do a part of the Chamonoix-Zermatt route. Part of the overnights are in mountain refuges (full service inns) and part are in villages where you could make bus connections to start or end the trip. Try this website for information. There are several books giving detailed descriptions of the various stages. http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Alpine/C-Z/index.html
