Three questions. Does it cost more to buy our swiss saver pass before we leave? We have heard there is a $20 charge. Second question..... Should we get a first class or second class ticket? Third question. Are the Express trains with thier views worth the price difference, since they travel along the same route? amr
1) If you purchase the pass in the USA you will pay in dollars and you will also pay a delivery charge. If you purchase in Switzerland you will pay in CHF but no delivery charge.
2) 2nd class Swiss trains are very nice. Swiss trains have a high standard of operation and are on time.
3) The Swiss Pass covers all of the Scenic trains, but you may need a reservation to guarantee a seat if you are traveling in high tourist season.
I bought the Swiss Saver Pass a couple of months ago for my July trip. I wanted to get the expense out of the way as well as lock myself into the rate (with the dollar tanking as it is).
Second class all the way! To me, there didn't seem to be much of a difference, and I would rather have the $$$ to do other things.
Regardless of what train you get on, you will be in Switzerland--you will not be disappointed by the views!
Have a great time!
