Any suggestion on this?
I am going to be in Vienna 1 day and Innsbruck for a day. I have heard good things about this. Is it going to be closer from Innsbruck?
To be honest, I was neither here nor there about the tour - but, it was a great place to buy little trinkets and gifts for everyone... :) I think (been 6 years) it was closer to Innsbruck. Makes a good stopover point.
I am also interested in buying gifts for myself ;-). Is there a way to skip meusum and go for crystals shopping directly?
I don't remember off the top of my head. (I got dragged through by my Soprano Diva friend. lol). There is also a Swarovski shop on the main drag in Vienna between the Opera house, and the Cathedral - but it was more pricey.
Though I have not been there myself, I have also heard very mixed reviews. Some people adore it and others think it is a big hype and waste of money. Guess it is one of those "personal taste" things. There are Swarovski stores all over Europe, and in the US. We found the prices in the states to be quite a bit lower than in Germany, even excluding the VAT.
Hi Kavita,
We took the Swarovski tour (walked through on our own) at Wattens (by Innsbruck). Somewhat interesting and the store was huge. I don't know if the prices are better than anywhere else, but the selection was crazy. According to the website (since I don't remember), you can visit the store for free without paying the admission price of the tour.

Oh, the location in Wattens is very close to Innsbruck. Less than 30 minutes.
Is it accesible by train? Shuttles are expensive
Hi San,
We have always driven, so I don't know anything about trains.

The Swarovoski Crystal Museum was interesting. I don't know if it is the same since it has been several years since we went. I read in one posting here that the prices were great! Well, after I purchased a couple pieces, I found that the price is "set" and the crystal is priced the same throughout the country AND when I returned to the USA, the same crystal piece was the same price of what I paid in Austria. The company was NOT marking up the prices for the US market. Maybe it has now changed the policy.
We were there last summer and went through the self guided tour. There were a few exhibits that were interesting, but many were not. The store is very large and very extravagant, i.e. a crystal ottoman! The grounds are very nice as there is a maze behind the exhibit with a little walking trail to overlook roof the museum which is all grass. Outside of the gate is also very unusual landscaping and fountains.
A family member took us there as she thought we would like it, but it was just OK. However, if you are a big fan of Swarvoski, then it will be a jewel of a place to spend a few hours. (Sorry, I couldn't help the pun.) Oh, it is very close to Innsbruck.
The museum is outside of Innsbruck. There also is a Swarvoski shop in Innsbruck that sells crystals and usually has a crystal related exhibit in the basement.
The crystal factory is in the town of Wattens near Innsbruck. I personally liked the tour very much.I was fascinating
to see the way they created rooms and people out of crystal. The store is huge and so much to choose from but pricey.
I would agree the prices are set and the same everywhere. Actually may be a little cheaper in the USA as we have to
had to convert to Euro and that was expensive
