We are leaving for Germany/Austria on July 28.At the end of the trip, we will be driving back from Salzburg to Frankfurt. I've allowed 2 days with plans of spending the night somewhere in between the two cities. Any suggestions on a city and/or hotel? We will be driving the autobahn, not Romantic Road (will travel that way on first part of trip)

If you drove the RR previously, you missed some interesting towns on the way south; Bamberg, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Eichstätt, Weissenburg, Bad Windsheim, and Iphofen might all make for a good stay.
You might even stay your final evening in Bamberg - only 2 hours to the airport from there - or Würzburg, only about an hour. Both cities are a little more interesting than overnighting at the airport.
