Suggestions on how to navigate from Villefranche to Monaco and Eze...

Hello, we will be in Villefranche from 8am to 7pm tendering from a cruise ship. We really want to visit both Monaco and Eze, and none of the ship sponsored tours appeal at all. I have yet to find a private guide available. Can anyone advise of decent train or bus transportation? I figure we may go to Eze first and have an early lunch there and then go back to Monaco. Any advise is very appreciated!

You are trying to go in opposite directions, Getting to Monaco is far easier. From the port look uphill and to your left and you should see the train station. As I remember it is only a 15/20 minute train ride. And there is more than enough in Monaco to occupy your full day. Eze is above Nice. Having not made that run I am a little more vague as to your options and defer to Tim below for a more expert opinion. However, I think it would be difficult to do both in the time you have.

If you want to do both, I would suggest going to to Eze-le-Village first to beat the tour buses. Take bus #100 from Villefranche-sur-Mer to Nice. Take either bus #82 or bus #112 from Nice to Eze-le-Village. Take bus #112 from Eze-le-Village to Monaco. Take either bus #100 or the train from Monaco to Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Bus #100 runs every 20 minutes. Go here for timetables for bus #82 and bus #112.

During the middle of the day there are trains about once/hour from Monaco to Villefranche-sur-Mer, but they run more frequently after 16:00. For timetables go to www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English.

Thanks so much for the detailed information. In reviewing the town of Villefranche, it looks like a nice place to explore as well. Sigh....too much to see and too little time.....
