Suggestions on hotels for Salzburg

Wondering if anyone knows of a hotel in Salzburg that is quaint with comfortable beds and great location. Should we be staying in the old or new town! Thanks
Michele

A number of years ago we stayed at the Hotel Goldene Krone: http://www.krone1512.at/en/ It was in a great central location and a really nice place. It's in Rick Steve's Germany, Austria and Switzerland book (at least in the 2004 verison!).

Last December we stayed in the Altstadt Hotel Weisse Taube that I think would meet all of your criteria. It is very quaint, right in the old town behind the cathedral. http://www.weissetaube.at/ That said, we stayed twice before in new town at the Hotel Bergland. It is recently remodeled and very nice. There was a considerable price difference and I think that we will go back to the Bergland if we return to Salzburg. I sort of like the residential feel of new town, much less touristy. Ten minutes walk to old town. http://www.berglandhotel.at/

Michele, I've also stayed at the Hotel Goldene Krone and would certainly recommend it based on my experience there. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast was good and the staff were great. It's in a great location with lots of nice restaurants in the vicinity, and an easy walk to the other side of the river where the Hohensalzburg Castle is located. I vaguely recall some Church bells in the evening, but didn't find that to be a problem. Happy travels!

The Weisse Taube is a wonderful hotel/B&B, steps from Mozartplatz. If you arrive by train, it is an easy bus ride from the station. Email the hotel and they will advise the numbers of bus routes. There is also an easy, no transfer bus to the airport and, so, most likely the same from the airport to the area of the hotel.

Quaint, comfortable beds, great location. That sounds like the Best Western Hotel Elefant in the heart of the old town. Like a lot of places in both the old town and the new town, it is expensive in the busy tourist season but reasonable in the off-season.
