Suggestions of where to Stay in Paris

The wife and I are taking a honeymoon next month to Paris for our honeymoon. We'll be in Paris for 12 days and were looking for some suggestions of affordable hotels some what centrally located to everything, like the louvre, tower, arc. Were were hoping to stay around $100/night but have some wiggle room. So any suggestions let me know cause we want to book the room as soon as possible since the trip came up so fast. Thanks in advance

Harold, if you're going to be there for 12 days: 1) consider an apartment; do a search on this site for other threads about folks who have used apts. 2) don't worry too much about staying in central location, Paris metro is easy & fun to get around 3) paris is great, but if 12 days in France, suggest you spend a few days in other places in France 4) get the Rick Steve France book; planning is half the fun!
5) Enjoy!

Harold Take a look at the thread from 4/7 inquiring about hotels for Paris. 29 responses so far. Also, just in the last 2 weeks there have been great recommendations to similar enquiries. $100 in May is a bit tight. Make your choice and book it soon.

Check out the hotel titled: "My Hotel In France: Le marais" HORRIBLE NAME, but an EXCELLENT value.

Congrats on your wedding. I too suggest an apartment for a 12 day stay. You can usually get a better rate the longer you stay. I find apartments on VRBO.com. An apartment will allow you to not have to eat all your meals out, which will save you money. If you can save money on food you will have more for an apartment. You can pay less in the outskirts, but I prefer to be centrally located and within walking distance of many things. I recommend the 4th, 5th and 6th arrondissments. You don't have much time, but that may be to your advantage if you rent an apartment directly from the owner. In addition to vrbo (vacation rental by owner) you can try homeaway.com. Don't be afraid to negotiate a better price. Have a great trip to my favorite city! I can't wait to go back in October.

Harold, If I may, consider a hotel over an apartment for this particular trip to Paris. This is your honeymoon after all! Why should you have to deal with washing dishes, making the bed, shopping for breakfast provisions, and keeping the apartment tidy? So much better to have the hotel staff look after your comfort and the housekeeping for this romantic time in Paris.

I second Norma! Also, if this is your first trip to Paris, I always recommend that folks stay in a hotel. Hotels are so helpful with the kazillion questions you will have. How to get to -? Where is a laundramat? Best bakery? Etc. Etc. It is nice to know that you have someone available to ask questions. Also, I would spend some time in the countryside. You will get a much different flavor of France in the countryside and small villages, Not sure how far you want to go, but the Loire Valley and Normanday are both wonderful destinations. And not too far from Paris. Both are accessible by car or train and car. Either of these can be done in 3-4 days. Farther afield, Provence is wonderful but with 1/2 day TGV (fast) train travel each way to Avignon, you would need to make it 5 -6 days. And rent a car when you get to Avignon. Sounds wonderful! I am so jealous. 12 days in Paris on your honeymoon!

Thanks for all the great advice! Were still trying to plan out what were going to do each day but we will definitely try to get out into the countryside or at least see normandy.

Do you have RS "Paris Guide Book" yet? If so, good. If not, you should get one as soon as possible as it has lots of good information that you are looking for. We have used one several times when visiting Paris and have never been disappointed. Happy Honeymoon and Happy Travels
