Suggestions for Rhine cruises?

Hi. I am thinking about a Rhine river cruise in late November or early December to see, in part, some Christmas markets. I am interested in ending in Amsterdam so that we could stay there for a few days followed by some days in Belgium. I have been looking into Viking Cruises. 1). Do you have any thoughts about Viking Cruises? 2) Could you recommend any other cruise lines on the Rhine? I was considering an 8 day cruise but would also be interested in shorter cruises as well. Thank you so much for your time and thoughts. I greatly appreciate it. Greg

We are a big fan of cruising but this is not a big cruise forum. In fact, you may be lucky if someone doesn't take a shot at you for wanting "to cruise." Go to cruisecritic.com. You will find more positive discussions on cruising there. There is a new discussion area, Europe Cruises, on the Graffiti Wall that I have not followed. Might look there. The recommendations I have received for river cruising are Avalon Waterways and Uniworld.

Thanks Frank. That is funny that you said some people might take a "shot" at me for asking about cruises---I kind of anticipated that---that is why I mentioned that I was going to spend some time staying in Amsterdam and Belgium. I was trying to temper any attacks!!! I kind of get the possible backlash on cruises. We have done a lot of independent travel in Europe but I thought that this might be a good change of pace. We also wanted to see some Christmas markets and thought that a cruise might be an efficient way to do it. Thanks again for your thoughts (and the warning!!!)

I think the cruise attacks usually come to those who are on those behemoth megamonster floating cities who pull into put and disembark a 1000 passengers to go see Rome in 4 hours. A river cruise is a bit different.
