My husband and I will be in the Normandy Region of France at the end of August this year. After 5 nights in Paris, 1 night in Mt St Michel and 2 nights in Bayeux (to see the Tapestry, Cathedral & a half day Overlord Normandy Beach Tour) we plan to drive to Rouen for an overnight, then drive on to Amiens for another overnight before heading to Belgium (Bruges, Ghent & Brussels) for a week. We plan to drive from Bayeux to Rouen (apparently its less than a 2 hour drive) and we were wondering if there are any suggested stops along the way. Also any tips for must-see's in Rouen (besides the Cathedral and Joan of Arc sites)? We arrive on a Monday. Many thanks fellow travelers!
This question overlaps with my own research, so I have quite a list of options for you of villages, small towns along the way. If you're strictly traveling the big freeway, I don't know which of these would 'work'. Starting from Bayeaux, many would choose a walk through Honfleur. Smaller villages along the way include: Dives-sur-Mer Pont l'Eveques Srt. Gatien des Bois Pont Audemer Le Bec Hellouin
Montfort Then, on the S side of the Seine's curves, past Honfleur there's a road referred to as something like 'Thatched Village Road'...from little place called Vieux Port on to La Mailleraye. Or, on the other side of Seine, Villequier & Candebec en Caux. Nearest Rouen is La Bouille. Your trip sounds wonderful. Brugges is a delightful place. Have fun.
Le Bec Hellouin is an extremely pretty village with an interesting abbey. We had a good lunch at the restaurant which is in the hotel on the road through town (sorry, can't remember the name. Maybe something like Hotel de L'Abbaye).
