Suggestions for itinerary

I am thinking of taking 2 weeks and going to Europe in May (not locked into that month) Thinking I want to start and end in London for ease sake. Wanted to definitely go to Prague and maybe Berlin or somewhere in Germany and Amsterdam or Paris- England and Prague are my only must do's- everything else is open. I have only been to London before so any advice on number of days to spend and what order to go in would be great. Thanks.

With just two weeks, I'd pick just three places and skip the rest. Remember, every time you move, you lose a day. Also, be honest with yourself about how many actual days you really have there: arrival or departure days don't count, and you'll probably be be wiped out (jetlagged and disoriented) on your first day there after the transatlantic flight(s) from the US west coast. England and Prague are my only must do's I assume you mean "London" (a city) rather than "England" (a country, which you can't see in 2 weeks). If that's the case, then fly in to London and fly back from Prague (or vice versa) - it would be foolish to double back especially on such a short trip - don't waste such a big chunk of your trip doing that. Then pick one more place in between. If you've only been to London, then I'd say it's a no-brainer: Paris. May is a nice time to go. Have fun.

Woody; flying from Los Angeles non-stop to London takes about 11 hours. Recently my flights have arrived about 11am; after checking into hotel, i am usully energized enough to do some walking; reasonable dinner and early-ish to bed ;you should be fine the rest of the trip. I would try my utmost to do a non-stop rather than possibly saving a few dollars by chaging planes somewhere else in USA. Munich/Paris/Frankfurt as i recall are about an extra hour (non-stop), but there is a further hour time change. Still you will have energy to do something similar on the first day. (Jet lag usually hits me abour 2 or 3 in the morning). my Czech friend prefers flying non-stop LAX to Munich on his way to Prague. need to know more about what you like /dont like and what you are hoping to see before we can give you more focused suggestions. however for "two weeks" you probably only want to do three locations at most. May is a good month to be in Europe

Thanks guys- I am interested in historical sight seeing, museums, food- and some light nightlife here and there. Sounds like I may want to start in Prague and work my way back to London- I am taking 17 days total

Woody, Especially for such a short trip, using open-jaw flights is absolutely the best idea. Whether you start in London or Prague will probably depend to some extent on the availability and cost of flights. For "historical sight seeing, museums, food" ideas in each location, check your local Library and have a look at Guidebooks for each city. These will also provide suggestions for day trips. With 17-days you should be able to see several of the cities you mentioned. I'd probably consider something like this: > D1: Flight to Prague > D2: Arrive Prague > D3-4: Prague, touring > D5: Train to Berlin (direct train travel time 4H:43M) > D6-8: Berlin, touring > D9: Train to Paris (travel time ~8H:11M with at least 1 change, depending on train chosen) > D10-13: Paris, touring (IMO, Paris will be a better choice than Amsterdam as more "historical" sites to see) > D14: EuroStar to London > D15-16: London, touring (I weighted the time at this end of the trip more towards Paris, as you've already been to London. If you'd prefer more time in London, adjust accordingly). > D17: Flight home There are lots of ways the Itinerary could be arranged, and this is one idea. Good luck with your planning!

Woody: I am inspired by Ken's excellent suggested itinerary to propose one of my own. There are innumerable possibilities, so play with different combinations until you hit the one that is right for you. Fly nonstop LAX to Munich, arrival Munich day 1. Stay in Munich Days 1 and 2. Day 3 Train to Prague. Days 3, 4, 5,6 in Prague. Day 7 Fly easyjet Prague to Paris Orly (buy tickets early to get very cheap ones). Paris Days 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 with daytrip to Versailles. Day 12 Eurostar Paris Nord to London St Pancras. Days 12 thru 16 London, with a daytrip to Bath if you haven't already been. Day 17 Fly home from London.
Sounds like a great trip!

This is exactly what I was looking for thanks!
Thinking I willl start in Berlin- prague-maaaaybe Paris- although you all seem real keen on it may just do a few days there and a little bit of a longer stretch in London- I have been to Bath and would like to go again- I am travelling with someone who has never been out of the US. Thanks for the help!

"I am travelling with someone who has never been out of the US." In that case maybe we should refer to the Book of Rick. It sayeth to commence a sojourn in the least culturally or linguistically challenging locale. Perhaps start in London and work west east.
