Suggestions for birthday dinner in Paris?

I am turning 52 on July 15, and would like to find somewhere nice but not too dress-up for my first time in Paris, as we will be walking all day and probably won't have time to change clothes/shoes. We are staying in Ste. Germain des Pres, but are open to any suggestions. Thank you very much in advance!

Alison, my husband and I had a fantastic meal at Chez Julien, 16 rue Mabillon, last year. If you Google it make sure you doublecheck the address because there is more than one restaurant with that name. It was a very small restaurant with impeccable service. We had 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and wine for 61 Euro. It was one of the best meals on our trip and we would have returned to that restaurant if we'd stayed in Paris longer. Have a wonderful birthday in Paris!

L'Épi Dupin. It has a Bib Gourmand rating (Michelin: "good cooking at moderate (for Paris) prices") It's in the 6th arr., where you're staying. Check out prices and see the description on viamichelin.com; search on 75006 Paris (6th arr.) and enter the restaurant name. Re your: "as we will be walking all day and probably won't have time to change clothes/shoes." In general, Paris restaurants don't open for dinner until later, which will give you time to go back to your hotel and freshen up for such a special occasion. If you pick a restaurant in the 6th arr., you'll be able to do this.

My favorite place to eat in Paris is at the Georges which is on the top of the Pompidou Center. The views of Paris are stunning. We celebrated our son's birthday this past june at this restaurant. Georges has a few vegeterian options.

Ooh, all these suggestions sound wonderful, and thank you all so much for contributing! Thank you for wishing me a bonne anniversaire, as well. :-) It was about time I saw Paris! That is a good point about going back to one's room to change for dinner. BTW, if anyone is interested, drop me a line and I can tell you all the reasons you should be in Sweden in the summer time. There are real "back doors" here, that live up to the original promise of the original "back door" idea of travel, if you remember the original RS from the old days of yore. :-)

I turned 50 in Paris last July, and M. Eber (proprietor of the Hotel Eber-Mars) hooked us up at L'ami Jean, a 3-minute walk from Rue Cler, for my birthday. Basque food, pretty low-key, but reservations required. It was moderately expensive, but causal, and lots of fun. By all means, try the rice pudding. It feeds about ten! http://www.amijean.eu/ Enjoy. We were in Paris recently and took a train from Gare de Lyon. The restaurant, Le Train Bleu, is located in the gare. After looking at this restuarant it will be at the top of my dining list on next trip to Paris-absolutely gorgeous and the menu looks tempting.
