Suggestions for Basel, Switzerland?

We are family of six spending 3 nights in Basel. Any suggestions for hotel? What about best day trips from there?

Hotels in Switzerland are expensive. This one was pretty close to the train station and only a few blocks from a lovely pedestrian area with many shops and restaurants. Hotel Garni Steinenschanze Steinengraben 69. Spotless basic rooms and a nice breakfast.
We were just passing through on our way to Strasbourg, but I understand there are many outdoor activities in the area.

My wife and I were just in Basel 3 weeks ago staying with Relatives. No hotel suggestions but for a day trip we went down to Interlaken and took the train up to Murren in the alps. One of the best things we did on our whole trip, in fact we wished we booked a night or two there b/c it's such a great place.

My husband and I are staying in Basel for 1 night at the easyHotel. It is an economy line based in Europe. I found it online and it received decent ratings. I believe it was around $80 USD/night with private bathroom. We are passing through Basel, just staying 1 night and then heading to Murren in the morning. I would love to spend more time there, but all the blogs I've been reading suggest that we get to Gimmelwald/Murren and spend as much time there. Safe travels!

The Airporthotel Basel was very cheap, clean, modern and very near the airport. There is a casino attached to the hotel and you get free drink coupons when you check in. There is a bus that is free from the airport to the train station with the first stop right in front of the hotel. There are only three more stops to get to the train station and it only takes about 10 minutes. Downtown is an easy walk from the train station. Basel is just OK for a night. Switzerland has much more to offer. My recommendation is to take the train to Lucerne, walk around and then take the Golden Pass train to Interlaken and head up to Gimmelwald or Murren. It is much nicer.
