We're considering spending a few days in Nerja in mid-July with two teens. Any suggestions on places to stay? Things to do?
Consider the Parador there. They offer package prices for longer stays. It is very comfortable and located so that you can walk into town - no need to drive and park. It is on a cliff above the sea and has a lift to take you down to the beach.
We stayed at Hostal Miguel, which is right in the heart of Nerja. The hosts are Brits, so language is not a problem. Breakfasts were wonderful, but the best part was being in such a pictureqsue area of Nerja. It was the least expensive of all our lodgings on that trip and the one that I remember the fondest. I would stay there again without question. Had fun watching a flamenco dance at a nearby bar one night. The caves of Nerja were a highlight for my husband. They are huge and very impressive with the stalacits and stalagnites. They even have concerts in there, I think. I enjoyed touring the town, walking the beach (not all are topless beaches) and having lunch at Ayo's paella restaurant. Get the RS Spain book, so you can read up on Nerja. One last tip--contact Dave Riordan in Frigliana to take you on an afternoon tour of Frigliana. Its great, inexpensive and extremely pictureesque. We have photos of Nerja & Frigliana all over our house. Feel free to contact me via PM for more info.
Celia, I just checked my Spain book and the caves "provide a cool venue for hot flamenco and classical concerts)in July. There's also a restaurant at the caves. You would need to check into tickets quie soon to get into the concert/flamenco dance as they sell out quickly.
Also, there are hikes listed in the book and I remember a horse-drawn carriage too. Our lodging at Hostal Miquel was about 50E a night per DB, which included breakfast, I think--this was in 2008. Its quite small, only 6 rooms, so book quickly if you are intersted in staying there.
Enjoy Nerja!
Deb
I couldn't remember the name but Deborah has. Ayo's Paella, along with a large pitcher of sangria, is a must. Find it at the end of the beach walk. Enjoy.
We spent a few days in Nerja in 2008 and loved it.
We stayed at Hostal Lorca which is right in town.

We had a car and enjoyed exploring the countryside, especially the Nerja caves, as well as beaches outside the town. We found the food excellent and would certainly go back again, as well as, stay at Hostal Lorca.
You will love Nerja! We visited there last year with our teenage son. We stayed at "Toboso-Apar-turis". It was great: a small apartment, located on the main square, overlooking the Balcon de Europa and the beach , had a kitchenette.(not used- so many great restaurants nearby),a pool, a balcony overlooking the sea, could walk everywhere. I don't recall the cost, but it was reasonable when compared to other places. Parked at a public parking area a block away and that worked well.
thank you! is Nerja very crowded in July?
