we are basing out of Zurich. We would like to takea few day trips to/from Zurich and then a trip that would get us headed towards Italy. We were thinking Lucerne with Mt. Rigi or Pilatus for one day--suggestions for others--Appenzellerland?? We want fun (for kids), quaint/old towns and scenery/mtns--no museums. thanks, Elaine

For heading towards Italy, Bellinzona is awesome and easy (right on the train line). Three fabulous castles.

I looked into Bellizona, but was wondering about 1st hand reports from anyone who actually went there--it did look enticing. Do you know if the train station has a left luggage place? Also, can we walk to castles from the train station? Since we have a Swiss Pass, I assume we could just hop on another train after we take a peek?
