Suggested Downtown Munich Hotel

My husband, one-year old and I will be in Munich in late May and looking for a hotel in walking distance to the city centre so we don't have to train it with our son. We also look at the reviews on tripadvisor but would love any suggestions. We're looking for something not too expensive but not too cheap either.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Here's some.

Blauer Bock
Viktualienmarkt
Royal
Uhland
Seibel
Münchner Kindl

The first two are near the Viktualienmarkt, which is close to Marienpaltz, the second two are near the Hbf. I think Seibel has several properties in Munich, and Münchner Kindl is fairly close to Marienplatz. Travel between the Hbf and Marienplatz is pretty simple. It's by S-Bahn. The main S-Bahn trunkline goes under the city and almost all of the S-Bahn go through it between those stations. There's a train every few minutes. There is also a pedestrian mall (Fußgangerzone) most of the way between the stops.

One which Rick recommends and we tried in March is Pension Lindner. The location is perfect, just two or three blocks from Marienplatz, and very affordable for the area. We liked it very much. Happy Travels!

I never thought I'd agree with Lee about anything, but he is on the mark by recommending Münchner Kindl. We stay there everytime we travel to Munich. It's definately in a central location. The price is right, the rooms are nice and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I was surprised to see that Muenchner Kindl charges Euro 8.50 for the breakfast buffet, according to their web site. Many other hotels include this in their price and, in my experience, have a very good selection. This might be a consideration in chosing a hotel.

Anna, yes, that did bother me. However, their price is so good, I'll ignore it.

Denise,

I second the recommendation for Hotel Uhland. It's in a quiet residential location, about 10-15 walk from the main station. It is possible to walk to Marienplatz although it's a bit of a hike. The rooms are very comfortable, the staff are great and the breakfasts are awesome!

With a one-year old, the Hotel that Lee suggested would be a good choice too. For those with a very generous travel budget (or travelling on an expense account), the Sofitel Munich is a beautiful Hotel and only 100M from the train station.

Happy travels!

Hotel Ludwig opposite the train station. Review their web site for specifics.

We stayed at the Platzl Hotel, just a few minute walk from the Marienplatz. It's a bit pricey (164,Euros) but it includes breakfast and it's a wonderful, old world, classy hotel.

We just returned from a trip to Germany and noticed that many of the hotels are now charging separately for the breakfast buffet (even the smaller B&B's).
