Last December we were in Stuttgart for one night before our return flight to Atlanta. We liked Hotel Astoria because we could walk there from the train station (about a 10-15 minute walk) and the S and U Bahn stations were nearby so we could quickly get to the airport the next morning. They had a good breakfast included in the price of the room--45 Euro. Good restaurants and a shopping area are located nearby. You may want to check the reviews on Trip Advisor to see if the hotel meets your needs of your group.
