Study Abroad in Strasbourg

Advice Needed! I'm planning to spend next July studying in Strasbourg, France. Does anyone have any advice about living in Strasbourg or ideas for weekend trips around that area?

Lucky you! The city has been called Alsace's answer to Paris (however, Parisians don't agree). Its Cathedral is one of the glories of European Gothic. The historic center is so packed with riches that you may not even want to go very far away on the weekends. However, if you do: the Alsace wine route; Colmar; and Mulhouse.

Lucky you, Christina!

You're gonna LOVE Strasbourg! And, I agree with the Kent about Colmar... I was there for my 1st time last month and fell instantly in like with it! If interested you can see my photos of Colmar on my website, "Bob's EuroPage" at http://home.comcast.net/~bepineurope - Alsace in general is a great part of France, especially if you like Germany. :-)

Have fun. And, if you get lonely send me a ticket to France!

Christina, my daughter is studying in Strasbourg for the year. She has been there since September and has nothing but great things to say. I know she has been over the border to Germany on - it is a 15 minute bike ride away! She has also been to Gimmelwald (sp?) and Colmar. She loved both. I gave her a Rick Steves Best of Europe book before she left and she is using it to plan other trips. She also has made a point of getting to know mostly European students as opposed to other Americans or even the English. I know she has invites from a few of them to come for the weekend to their homes in other parts of France or Germany. She also really loves Strasbourg itself and the pictures she has sent are wonderful. It looks and sounds like a great tourist town and she doesn't feel like she has seen all of it in the 6 weeks she has been there. She hopes to go skiing in Switzerland and Paris is only a train ride away. Then there are the cheap flights to the rest of Europe...

Hi Christina,
Many French culinary types consider Strasbourg the very best place in France / Europe for foodies. In particular, Winstubs [special cafés] are highly regarded. All you need to do is inquire locally. Everyone there knows where to go.
Bon Appetit! P.
