I've read that strollers are not permitted in Versailles. Does anyone know if you can bring in the child carriers that are similar to backpacks? Thanks!!

I'm not sure of the rules but I can understand why there are no strollers. First, you walk over about 1/4 mile of cobblestones before you even get to the gate. Second, once you get inside, it's crowded. You just can't believe the crowds that are in that place. You will be shoulder to shoulder. A stroller would be a real inconvenience. As for the child backpack, unless toddlers are not allowed, I don't see what the backpacks wouldn't be permitted. However, I can't recall if they made you check your backpacks when you entered. We didn't have one. Hmmm. Somebody else may have to comment here.
