Strasbourg or Colmar

We are going down the border of Germany from Cochem to the Black Forest. We want to go over to France briefly and wondered which would be more interesting - Strasbourg or Colmar? We will have our 11 year old grandson with us.

Colmar...Beautiful, ancient and very unspoiled. Easier for a young person to absorb. Strasbourg is a big city with much to negotiate before you get to the heart of the old town. The pace in Colmar will be slower, the old section is much more like a village. Both places are great but completely different. Check what RS says about the black forest.

I have only seen Colmar on a travel show( not RS) and it looked very cute, I think an 11 yr old would enjoy it more then a big city( at least for a change) old stone walls etc, looked medievel .

I haven't been to Strasbourg, but I've heard good things. I did spend a day in Colmar, and it was charming. I think a child would like how quaint Colmar is.

I would say Strasbourg ;D
Ok, I don't know Colmar that well, but in this town there is certainly things to see.

Hi Barbara,
... I would agree with Pat, but keep in mind many French citizens consider Strasbourg the best place in the country to eat. Colmar has bistros called "Winstub", but Strasbourg is famous for that institution and I have never eaten so well before nor since we were in Strasbourg.
... For me it would be a somewhat difficult choice ... bon voyage! P
