Straight to Versailles gardens -- go through security first?

I'm thinking of going to Versailles on a Sunday afternoon in September, but starting with the gardens and then going to the Chateau. My questions: Do I have to get in the security line before going to the gardens? (In other words, would I be able to go to the gardens, then get in the hopefully shorter security line, and then go to the Chateau?) Also, since I'm going on a Sunday afternoon, is there a particular route to get to the garden entrance since there will be an extra charge for the fountains Sundays (not included in the Paris Pass)? Thanks.

There is no security for the gardens. Ordinarily you just walk right in (there are actually several entrances scattered about along the perimeter). On fountain days, you'll pay (or show proof of payment) before entering the formal garden area.
