We'll be visiting the castles but will be enroute from one place to another. Does anyone know if we will be able to store our suitcases at the Fussen train station while touring the castles? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
There are 30 lockers at the station in Fuessen. When I was there in September, most were unused.
If you can't put your bags in the lockers at the station, take them on the bus to the Hohenschwangau stop. The TI office is right next to the bus stop and they will hold your bags for you.
Wow that was quick; thanks so much :)
Mary, if you can possibly squeeze it in, consider staying the night in Schwangau. Last May my friends and I spent a couple of days in Fuessen. We arrived in the afternoon of the first day and saw the castles. The morning of the second day we took the gondola up into the mountains - absolutely beautiful! We took the bus back to Schwangau and ate at a little restaurant there (I actually stayed at a small restaurant/hotel there in 2000) and then went to the Crytal Baths. It was so nice to break up our trip with an afternoon of pure relaxation. Once you get to the pools outside, you can lie back in the hot water and see Neuschwanstein. It was one of the best itinerary ideas I've ever had. If you can't stay over, consider stopping there after the castles for a couple of hours before moving on.
Thanks for your suggestions, but I have a full schedule. We'll be in Oberammergau for the Passion Play for 3 days, then we really have only one day in Fussen, then we're off to Munich. We'll then have 4 days in Berchtesgaden. Since we're in transit that day, we'll have to store our suitcases.
I've been to the castles twice, but my niece hasn't so we're trying to squeeze it in. If I had more time, I would definitely take your advice. Thanks, happy travels :)
If you are going to be in Oberammergau, RVO (Regionalverkehr Oberbayern) runs buses between Oberammergau and Fuessen. The bus stops in Hohenschwangau, in front of the TI office and just around the corner from the castle ticket kiosk, a few minutes before getting to Fuessen Bahnhof. The people in the TI office said they will let people stash bags behind the counter while visiting the castles. There are no lockers at the ticket kiosk.
