Stevie Wonder in Nimes

My wife and I will be travelling from Paris to Arles on July 4th and were intrigued to find Stevie Wonder has a concert scheduled at the Nimes Arena that day. We were not really looking for this type of event during our travels but both raised our eyebrows and thought it may be a fun event when we saw the venue.

Any perspectives on showing up in town the evening of a show and trying to purchase tickets to this type of event? Anyone done something similar? There are plenty of UK sites still selling tickets on line (at a very steep price) so I'm guessing plenty of tickets left.

BTW: What happened to the days of buying a concert ticket without a taking a second mortgage on your house! I guess I was spoiled by the 70's.

Here's the official site to purchase tickets:

http://www.livenation.fr/event/14254/stevie-wonder-tickets

The concert's not sold out...plenty of seat available.

The site's only in French, and using what little French I know, and the Google Translator, I was able to make a dummy booking up to the page where you enter your Credit Card info. They won't hold the tickets at the box office, they only mail overseas tickets at 15.00 euros per order.
If you're not comfortable booking the tickets over the web, I think you have a good shot at purchasing tickets at the Arena box office on the day off the performance. It's less than 30 days to the concert, if it's not sold out now, it probably won't be.

I agree with Michael that if it's not sold out yet, it probably won't be. Additionally, there are legitimate ticket brokers.

If you want to buy tickets ahead of time, there are plenty of companies like LiveNation that will sell them to you. Just google: "Stevie Wonder" Nimes and you'll get a list. (You will pay a premium.)

Be careful trying to buy from scalpers. Not only are phony tickets to events being printed, but the government is cracking down and arresting sellers and buyers.

If it was me, I'd just wait until you get to Nimes and buy frorm the box office.

Thanks guys. I think we will wander up to Nimes for the evening and see if we can get some tickets on site. If they are sold out we'll just make an evening of it around town. Thanks again.

"I think we will wander up to Nimes for the evening and see if we can get some tickets on site."

Wondered where you're going to be wandering up from? Trains work best, if you're not sleeping in town. Traffic and parking can be a challenge in the historic center, so if driving you'll want to take a look at the map and maybe have an idea of where you want to try to park. The usual (for France) tight parking places in the parking garages.

The Arena is interesting to see, in and of itself--about two thousand years old. So they've been doing events there for awhile.

We will be staying in Arles and would travel by train. It looks like the last train back to Arles leaves at 10:30 so the timing may be tight.

Think "Ma cherie amour" will be on the set list?

Jeff - I would definitely try to go to this since it's in the Roman arena. You're absolutely right, the venue will make it unforgettable. I went to a concert at the Theatre Antique in Arles a few years ago and it was magical to sit in a theater that has been used for so many years. I can't help you with ticket prices but I think it would be a unique and memorable experience.

We actually have a couple options to catch him in France. He will be playing at Bercy in Paris on the day we arrive. It just felt a little ambitious to attend a concert the first night we arrive; plus the venue in Nimes seemed so much more appealing.

We're getting more excited as we talk about it. It's like a little mini-adventure on our bigger adventure through southern France. We may even bite the bullet and just find a place to stay in Nimes for the night. We're creating a home base in Arles for 5 days and staying at the Hôtel le Régence; which is pretty affordable. If we have to double up on lodging costs for the night; c'est la Vie. You only live once!
