staying on the rhine

I am looking for someone who has stayed at the Castle Hotel Auf Schoenburg. I have reservations for this may, want a castle experience not sure about the price.

Lisa - we stayed here in July 06. It is very nice. We had the family suite with a separate bedroom for my husband & myself, 1 bathroom, and a sitting room that had 2 twin beds that pulled out from a cupboard. My 6 foot+ teenage son slept on one of the beds and he was comfortable. The breakfast buffet was great - including sparkling wine to get you going! We also had dinner there the first night though I admit we were pretty jetlagged so can't remember too much about it.

The views are incredible and the location was good for us. We had a car - it is a long way up the hill - so it was easy for us to get around. We enjoyed it very much.

Unless you just want to brag about how much money you spent, I'd stay in St. Goar or Bacharach. There is a lot more to see in those towns, and you don't have the hassle and expense of a car. There are nice, inexpensive places in both St. Goar and Bacharach that give you a truer German experience. I wasn't impressed with Oberwesel.

I agree with Lee as I styaed in Bacharach in August for 3 nights. Wonderful choice.

We were just there on October 31 and loved it. Our room had a small balconey that overlooked the Rhine and had a library theme and was very pretty. There was a roaring fire going in the library of the hotel. Dinner was four or five couses and very good. No, it is not inexpensive but worth the splurge. We liked Bacharach but did not care for St. Goar. We try to stay at least one time at an upscale hotel or inn on every trip and never regret it.
