I've found a neat-looking apartment that I am thinking of renting for six nights in November. The only problem is it's right between the Louvre and Forum Des Halles ... and I can't find much information about that neighborhood. I was hoping someone here could tell me about it!
That is the 1st arrondissement, a very good area. I imagine the apartment is very nice. Here's the Wiki link http://wikitravel.org/en/Paris/1st_arrondissement
very nice area, and so convenient for all the sights. Imagine having Tuilerie gardens as your back garden
We stayed in an apartment in the 2eme arrondisement just north of the Forum Des Halles, which is a big multilevel shopping mall. We could walk to the Louvre or the Marais from this conveniently located apartment. Walking from Les Halles to the Louvre was very safe. We usually walked to Notre Dame area every night. The street we used was mostly businesses. In the 2eme arrondisement you have the Rue Montorgueil (think Rue Cler without tourists) and many cafes and restaurants.
I agree with the others. You've found a good spot. Snag it.
Yay! Thanks for all the advice; I booked it, and we're very excited.
You will love the location, Tonya. We stayed in an apartment about a block and a half from Les Halles on Rue St. Denis and walked to just about everything. The nice thing was that at the end of the day, and our feet were killing us, we'd jump on a Metro and it would take us to our place via Les Halles or Chatalet stations. Our neighborhood, like so many, was "pedestrian friendly" (only delivery vehicles and taxis allowed during certain hours)and seemed super safe to walk about at all hours of the day and night. In fact, the Metro became so much a part of our daily venturing that we used up 22 Metro tickets for two of us over 6 days.
