I'm doing a quick morning run around St. Gallen at the end of June as a stop between Munich and Lauterbrunnen. I had planned to train into St. Gallen at night, see the cathedral, library, and a chocolate shop, then out mid-afternoon (2:45).
I'm having trouble finding hotels in town near the main sites for a reasonable rate, as there is a festival going on. I beleive Hotel Dom is booked. Any other suggestions?
As an alternative, I've thought of staying in a nearby town and coming in early in the morning (18 minute train). Rorschach looks like it would work to stay overnight, get up for an early morning stroll along the lake, then move on to St. Gallen. I like the idea of getting to see Lake Constance, if only for a quick morning walk. Does that sound like a reaosnable plan? Are there other small towns on the Swiss side of the lake near St. Gallen that might be better? I swear I've alreadsy searched the board. I bow to yall's wisdom. :)
