Stay in Vaison la_Romaine or Gigondas?

We are trying to decide where to stay over two nights: 1.Stay one night in Vaison la Romaine after a day of visiting Avignon, Pont du Gard, Orange, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape and then second night in Les Florets after RS's wine tasting tour. OR 2. OR 2 nights at Les Florets after a day of visiting Avignon, Pont du Gard, Orange, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape from St.Remy and the second night at Les Florets after RS wine tasting tour. Is it worth staying in Vaison la Romaine for one night? We are considering staying at Bastide la Combe.

We stayed in Vaison-la-Romaine for 3 nights last July at L'Eveche, it is very nice in the old part of the town. Our day trip to Gigondas was wonderful, and we wished we were spending the night there. The wine co-op is phenomenal. We prefer wines to ruins and would have liked more time in Gigondas, and other small 'wine' villages to V-la-R. Far more restaurant choices in Vaison, if you've only one night, I'd suggest Gigondas.

Did you enjoy having a night to walk around Vaison, was there shopping open? Just trying to decide if it's a town that is worth walking around at night or if extra time to enjoy surrounding wineries is beter.

I love Vaison la Romaine but would stay in one place for two nights so you don't have to switch hotels. The old section of Vaison is very nice to walk in the evening although the few shops in that area will likely be closed. If you want to stay in the old section of Vaison, I recommend Hotel le Beffroi.

We stayed in Vaison La Romaine for 4 nights last summer and it as a great home base. It was large enough for plenty of sights within the town itself and central for visiting sights around the area. It was very well situated for exploration to the wine towns. We spent a day tour of Chateauneuf du Pape and it was educational, tasted some great wines, and had an overall great day.
