I will be in St Jean De Luz for 2 days. I will have a car and I plan to take a day and go to Ascain, Sare, Ainhoa, Espelette, Cambo-Les- Bains, La Bastide Clairence. The other day I plan to spend on foot around the city St Jean De Luz. We love walking, Art, and just being around the culture. What would you recommend doing for the day in St Jean De Luz? For the 3rd day we are spending it in Biattriz- Any suggestions there? Then off to Paris which I already have figured out.
St Jean: The best walks are along the Bay of Biscay outside of the little bay that that leads into the harbor. The one going toward Hendaye is longer but the one heading north goes by some really big breakers hitting the rocks. If you walk the harbor, there's places to eat and drink with good views to the west of the little recreational marina across the highway bridge. Biarritz (sp?): The only good walk is around the promontory that's off to your left as you face the beach from centre ville. Suggestion. Stick your nose in the casino because it's famous and haul tail to Bayonne (best cathedral south of Bordeaux) for the day. Unless you want to sort of surf or lounge on the beach, the place had become a dud by the middle of the last century. Even the aquarium sucks.
I'd suggest spending a day in Bayonne instead of Biarritz. There's a quite good Basque Museum and an attractive cathedral. We also enjoyed just walking around the town.
Thank you - What is there to do in Bayonne?
