We want to drive to St Goar and take river cruise to Bacharach and stay there the night. Is there a way to get our car there or do you have another suggestion
You could take the train back from Bacharach to St. Goar the next day very easily. The trains along this section of the Rhine stop at both towns. You could also drive to Bacharach, take the cruise to St. Goar then take the train back to get your car. I remember parking areas in St. Goar, but don't know if they were for long term parking. You might want to check that out before you make a final decision (if you haven't already).
marianne, As I recall, the cruise from Bacharach to St. Goar is shorter, due to the direction of the current in the river. My suggestion would be to drive to the Hotel you've chosen in Bacharach, check-in and park your car. If the hotel doesn't provide parking, they'll be able to recommend a cost effective place nearby. There's parking just below the railway tracks, but I can't remember if it's "pay" or "free". Walk across the street to the KD ticket booth, buy a ticket and board the next boat (hopefully it's the elegant old Goethe paddlewheeler). Cruise to St. Goar and then either return to Bacharach by train OR if you have lots of time take the boat back. If the weather is good, it's a nice cruise both ways. Happy travels!
