We are planning to travel Sept 19 direct to Paris, return to Seattle Oct 6. via Paris (we have already purchased our tickets) Currently staying 3-4 nights Paris and then onto Switzerland. Loved lake Como region (last trip to Italy) would like to experience lake region, medieval towns, forests, mountains. Or would it be best to go onto Switzerland directly. Is central switzerland worth the travel time vs Lake Geneva region. thinking of taking the train to enjoy the scenery. Back to France: considering Provence, somewhere on the mediterranean and Burgundy before return to Paris. Is this too much we like to stay at least 2-3 nights in each destination.
Thank you Stephanie
If you liked Lake Como, you'll love Luzern for several days. Then go to Muerren/burner Oberland area for several more days(3or4). Take train to Geneva, spend half a day, rent car on France side, go to Annecy for half a day, then onto Chamonix. All of this is dependent on weather. Drop off car or continue to Nice/surrounding area, have fun, take train to Paris or East Jet. Leave Paris , flight to Zurich, train to Luzern. In Chamonix, do Mt. Blanc if not closed at that time of year.
Stephanie, I would also recommend at least a couple of nights in Lucerne, as it's an easy trip from Paris (likely TGV to Basel and then local trains). It's a beautiful city with some interesting sights, including a fantastic Museum of Transport. You could go from there to the Berner Oberland for 2 - 3 nights to enjoy some of the magnificent scenery. There are several towns you could stay in, depending on what type of "experience" you want and what sightseeing you're going to do in that area. As you prefer to stay two or three nights in each location, you may want to skip one location on your list. Given the area you're planning to cover in 16 days, it will be extremely important to allow adequate travel times between destinations. You'll also have to be back in Paris the night prior to your flight home, so that will reduce your touring time further. Given your home location, you may it helpful to stop by Rick's headquarters in Edmonds if you're in the area, and have a chat with his extremely knowledgeable and well travelled staff. Happy travels!
