Several years ago, I was driving through Switzerland and apparantly a speeding camera clocked me around 8 km above the posted limit. I ignored the 2 tickets that came in the mail as they appeared the rental car company had paid them. How can I make sure there is no outstanding tickets in my name. I am planning to return to Switzerland in 2012 and don't want to have any surprises when I'm there.

One thing I can guarantee you - the rental car company didn't pay your tickets. If there was an extra charge from them on your credit card back then, it was an administrative fee for providing your identifying information to the traffic authorities.

pay 'em. The charge on your credit card was probably the fee that the rental car company took for rumbling your name and address to the authorities, not the actual fine....
