Speed cameras in Provence

Wife and I just returned from lovely week in Provence. Great vacation! Only hiccup was despite being careful to watch speed limits we encountered two bright "flashes" on the autoroutes, both at night. Has anyone had a ticket or dealt with this situation? I've read that almost half of all speed camera citations are of foreign drivers and that they rarely enforce. The fines appear minimal, even less than parking tickets in the states. Just curious if my credit card will get dinged once they find out it was a rental car and contact my car rental company, or if I can expect a bill in the mail in 6 months. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Nancy. I should have done that before posting. Great threads on this.

Unless you had somebody in the adjacent lane to you when the camera got you - it will be you. Times two. No, the fines are not minimal, unless you are especially rich. Yes the credit card will get a charge on it. Twice. Figure around $50 each time. That's not the fine, that's the fee you agreed for them to answer the police request for information. The fine will follow, eventually, to your home address provided to the rental company. oops.

Thanks for the "oops". I'm hoping someone in the USA who has dealt with this can provide some info. Everything I have read is that other European nations France handles these offenses differently than for folks overseas. I mean, in the US, you have various remedies to contest the ticket. Also, I don't know if I was tagged or not. There were cars all over the place. If anyone from the USA has had a similar experience I would appreciate hearing how it turned out. Thanks

Go to the search box above and input "speeding ticket in France". There have been several threads on here about people receiving tickets in the mail after arriving home, lots of personal experiences to read about.
