I know there have a been a billion questions about atm usage in Europe, and the answer is invariably use the airport atms right when you get off the plane to withdraw Euros. I searched but could not find an answer to which /specific/ ones to use though... I'm sure some of you know those airports quite well and have a favorite go-to atm. Which ones will give you the best deal, not fee raping you, and where are they specifically? As in "it's in terminal D next to the Starbucks". We're flying through US Airways if that helps terminal wise. We only have a bit over an hour in Frankfurt so we might not be able to exchange there, thus my question of Florence as well. Thanks for any info!
No bank ATM in Europe will charge you a fee so just look for one that is associated with a bank. The only fees you will pay are those imposed by your bank. (Non-bank ATMs often do charge a fee.)
Most of the ATMs at Frankfurt Airport are Deutsche Bank ones. It's a partner bank of BoA and they don't charge any handling fees on withdrawing from a checkings account. Other than that they all work the same way, are all nice and relatively clean (given the number of fingers that touch it every day). There are many, many at FRA airport so if you don't feel comfortable at one just walk for a couple of more yards to get to the next one.
According to the schedule on the FRA website (www.frankfurt-airport.com), USAir is using Terminal 1. I've flown into Terminal 1 four times in the last 10 years. I use a carryon and don't go through baggage claim. Every time, I have found a Deutsche Bank automat on my right just as I came out of the concourse into the hall of Terminal 1.
Since you are just changing planes at FRA, you might look for an automat on the concourse.
Just ask someone where the nearest ATM location.
We never had a problem finding one in an airport.
