Spain..what to wear?

I know everyone is tired of this question, BUT..is it too late in the year to wear shorts? I am leaving for Marbella in 10 days, and don't want to pack useless attire. Is it too early to pack boots?

We were in Nerja last March, and I think the weather
would be similar now in October. I wore capris and flip flops, when we were out on the street, and at our "villa" home, would change into cut-offs. I took
a pair of walking tennies for longer walks when flip flops were not enough support. We didn't need jackets
at all- maybe long sleeves sometimes. A rain slicker
that folds up small would be wise to take. We were
there nine or ten days, and had just one day that was
not glorious blue sky and sunshine. That day, it rained as hard as I had ever seen, and I live in the
northwest like you!

To stand out like a sore thumb (an American sore thumb) wear shorts and flip flops.
All of Europe is more formal than the U.S. I like to blend in myself. Even young teens and 20 somethings wear slacks (or ironed jeans) in Spain and France.
So, try looking local! It's fun!

OK..I am back from my trip in Spain. I was in Costa Del Sol. Let me tell you...REAL FUR.. was everywhere! On coats, dresses, handbags, and even the tops of boots.
I only saw American's in capri pants..never locals. Most women in Spain dress very, very well. Even those over 55 were in nice jeans and boots. The colors for this fall were orange, brown, grey, turquoise and of course, black. Crazy colored tights, lots of plaid.
