Spain Trains & Buses

Hi, I am going to Spain in June. I am planning on flying into Madrid and then taking the train into Sevilla. I am trying to buy the train tickets online, but the website will not let me. Is it because it is too far in advance?
Also, I would like to go to Granada from Sevilla. Which method of public transportation (bus or train) takes you closer into the city of Granada. Thanks for your help in advance. Shirley

Although there are considerable savings to be had by buying tickets in advance, that may not be your best option from Madrid to Sevilla. The bargain-priced tickets are usually (always??) non-refundable and non-changeable. If your plane is late or there is any other delay, you could miss your train, and lose the money, and still have to buy a full fare ticket at the airport. From the airport, you take the commuter train to Atocha. The trains run every half hour, so if you miss it by a minute or two, you've lost another half hour. If you buy your ticket at the airport, you get a free ticket on the commuter train. I don't know if you will have to buy that ticket (maybe 3 euros) or if they will give you one when you show them your prepaid ticket to Sevilla. Lastly, I had to get a security code for my Mastercard in order to buy tickets online.

I am taking the AVE from Madrid to Seville in early May. Apparently they have changed the dating on at least some of the AVE trains so you can get them somewhere between 90-120 days out. I went to the Renfe site to find out when availability began but after several hours of messing with the Renfe site went to the Raileurope site and had my tickets in 15 minutes. We also are traveling from Seville to Granda and plan on taking the train, but apparently those tickets aren't available until the 62 day time. Good Luck Jonathan
