Would like to go to Spain and than onto Libson in September. First trip to Spain. Going for two weeks and NOT renting a car. Which city in Spain is the best place to take the bus or train to Libson. Barcelona, Valenica, Granada Seville are on my list. Appreicate any comments on transportation, hotels or tips. Thanks.

Your map should tell you Seville is closest to Lisbon, but it is certainly not well connected by train as Spain and Portugal's networks do not connect in the South. Excepting those running in the extreme north or south, it seems that nearly every train in Spain somehow ends up in Madrid. There is an excellent overnight train that runs from Madrid to Lisbon which I ahve used twice with no complaints. A bunk in a four-person compartment is comfortable.

If you are planning to go from Madrid into Lisbon, Easyjet has a 29euro one way ticket. It is cheap option when compared to the trains and just 2hrs of flying time
