Spain - safety of parking in Nerja during day trip

We will be renting a car for just 3-4 days to drive the Costa del Sol, mid-June 2010 -- basically Sevilla to Tarifa, Gibraltar, and then on to Granada.

Will our luggage be safe in the car? For example, when we stop briefly in Nerja to see the Balcony of Europe and perhaps have lunch?

Is the caution about removing luggage from the car pertinent only in the larger cities?

I leave my luggage in the car all over the place in Spain and everywhere else and never have had a problem.

Perfectly safe. You will almost certainly be in a parking station as Nerja, like most towns in Andalucia can be difficult to park in. It can also be difficult to drive in.
