Spain/Portugal route

My fiancee and I are planning to honeymoon in Spain and Portugal for three weeks in October/November. I'd like to book flights but am trying to figure out the best route to take. We'd like to see the big cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Valencia, Lisbon, Porto, etc.) and take side trips from there. Any tips/suggestions/experiences on routes and where to fly in and out of to maximize the trip would be greatly appreciated. We can't wait!

Jeff, my wife and I took a (shorter) trip to Spain & Portugal a few years ago. It was all great, but the best place we went in Spain was Granada (spend the night or two), and the best in Portugal was Sintra (doable as a day trip from Lisbon).

Your tastes may be different than ours, but my suggestion is to read about these destinations and discuss whether they appeal to you.

Logistically I think you want to fly into Barcelona and home from Lisbon (or reverse), minimizing any doubling back in between. You can't see it all in three weeks--it's just not that easy to get around. Good luck!

Thanks guys for the responses. I'm starting just look for Barcelona/Lisbon or Bilbao/Lisbon combo flights. After that, it will be easier to plan out the trip.
