Ellen, I was in Spain last year from 10 to 25 October. i was in Madrid, Sevilla, and Barcelona. It was warm and pleasant every day of my trip. I wore Dockers style pants and knit polo shirts and I was fine. I took a fleece jacket and a hat with me for emergencies, but I never had to take them out of my suitcase. This was my first trip there in the early fall, so I am not sure if that is normal or what. I guess I'll find out as I am heading back there for two weeks beginning on October 8th.
hi and thatnks so much for your reply. perhaps you can help me. i would like to edit my question and add morroco to the list of portugal and spain but don't know how. i am a newbie and don't know where to begin
thanks
thank you for your reply. have you been to portugal or morroco?
i would also like to know the answers to the same questions such as weather that time of year and if women can wear sleevless in Oct, (or is it too cold there (i am from florida and am quite use to the hot weather)
STOP SHOUTING AT US AND YOU WILL RECEIVE MORE POLITE REPLIES (the use of ALL CAPS on the intertoobs is usually interpereted as screaming, is considered by many to be impolite, and is difficult to read). That said, there are no guarantees about the weather. Yes, I've been to all of these countries (including Morocco), several times, at exactly that time of year and you should be prepared for any weather ranging from very hot and humid, to cold, windy and rainy - we experienced all of the above within a couple weeks there: blisteringly hot sunshine and cold, wet storms (what seemed like a hurricane). You'll probably experience at least some of each so you need to plan for all of it. Bottom line: wear what you want to be comfortable, but bring along clothing appropriate for and be prepared for any kind of weather, hot, cold, dry, wet, windy, and any combination of those. It's not unusual to experience them all.
i am so terribly sorry. i did not know caps was considered screaming. as i said this is the first time i have ever been on this board. i appreciate you pointing this out to me and i will not do it in the future. that being said, i thank you very much for the info.
sounds like i'll have a variety of weather situations.
You haven't said where you're actually going. Spain's a big country with some pretty rugged mountains. Morocco has high mountains as well. You could have a snowball fight in both tomorrow morning. David got it right. Blanket statements about weather are spot-specific and anecdotal at best - - at worst, they're completely uselss, especially when applied to an extensive geogrpahic area. The only safe way to be prepared is to use something like wunderground.com, query the historical highs, lows, and precipitation - - then plan from there. You pretty much have to put in specific cities in an area; eg, you can't assume Lisbon will match Madrid because they're at about the same lattitude - - Madrid's higher and has a continental climate while Lisbon's lower and more influenced by maritime factors. On the other hand, the Algarve will be pretty much the same as the coast of western Andalucia since weather/climate is not terribly influenced by the Guadiana River.
David, Nice going, your manners are impeccable. Not all of us know the ciphers and codes, and manners and practices of communication on modern electonic devices. A little patience wouldn't hurt.

thanks ed i will be going to the following: madrid, lisbon, seville, gibralter, fez, marakesh . someone on the board had mentioned a website for climates in different countries. however i cannot find the name. somehow i managed to delete it. would you know what it is? thanks
ellen
wunderground.com works fine Stick in the city Get the initial data Go down to History/Almanac and click 'seasonal data' Work off the graph
Ellen... being from Florida you should prepare for your trip by using the same kind of layers you use in Nov. in Fl. Light layers should cover most of the weather fluctuations you will encounter. I have been to the locations you will be visiting, only in the steamy heat of the summer, but even then you have lots of variables. You might even find it cold there.... my daughter lives in Lake Mary and when I am swealtering she is fine.
Please keep posting as there are lots of people here to help with great advice and just ignore the rude ones.
I'd expect nice weather so bring mostly light layers. It will probably be windy in Tarifa and possibly Gibraltar, so pack a good wind/water proof shell. I always pack a warm layer. For summer, it's usually a thin merino wool sweater that doesn't take up much room but layers well when I need it.
