Hello, and thanks in advance for your input. We are two couples who will be visiting Spain after a 2 1/2 week trip to Northern Ireland. We would like to "wind down' someplace lovely and warm. We like nature (hikes, etc), beaches, good food/wine and local culture. We are looking at a week in either if these two locals. Any advice/input would be welcome!
I cannot compare the near chalk and cheese.
Jimena is not coastal and probably half the population of Nerja normally. Nerja has beach, but depending when you go will be hugely more populated by those looking to "wind down'' from other parts of Spain and Europe, will that be a problem? Again, depending on when, the weather will be - who knows. Andalucia has all your 'likes' in abundance, but not necessarily all in one of these two places. 'google' will likely do you better than this forum.
Hi Beth and Lee,
My husband and I and another couple just spent a week in a rental house in Jimena de la Frontera at the end of April this year. We loved the location! Tons of hiking available, as Jimena borders a large national park. It is a very small, quiet town, with several good restaurants, a small "supermarket" and a couple of little bodega-type stores. No high-rise development, no resorts; there are rental properties and small inns. I have not stayed in Nerja, but a few years ago stayed in Torrox Pueblo; if I remember accurately, Nerja is far more developed and resort-y. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
