Madrid - On arrival, suggest you take the aerocity van to your hotel. check their website for details. If your hotel is convenient to the Airport Express Bus, take it, but there is only one or two stops from the airport to the Atocha station. For good restaurants and bars in Madrid, I would suggest something in the Calle Funercaral Area. (mixed crowds - straight and gay) Local, and lively as well. Many spots there, check some of the web sites - www.madridman.com will be a good start. Sevilla - Really Discover Sevilla is an excellent tour service small groups as opposed to the larger ones. They can get you in touch with an excellent flamenco show as well. As in Madrid, there are many excellent restuarants to be found. Train from Madrid to Sevilla leaves from the Atocha statioin. About 2 1/2 hours. Snack/sandwiches are available in the 'dining' car. Your ticket will have the car number (coche) as well as the seat number. Think I have some names of places in my travel box and will send to you.

We did the same trip last year over New Years. The only difference is that we fly home from Malaga and saved the expense and time returning to Madrid. That added an extra couple of days in Seville and Granada. We were able to take a very early (6AM) bus from Granada to Malaga to catch a 1 or 2 pm direct flight to the US. Very easy and convenient.

We were able to use the Metro just fine to get to and from the airport in Madrid. Lots of changes (I think three) but it was easy to use and dirt cheap (around 2.50eur). While in Madrid maybe consider a day trip to Toledo? Very cool little town about 30 min train ride away. Try looking through some of the dining suggestions in the RS Spain book. Most of those that we went by on our trip were very non touristy (some basic Spanish words would be good to practice ahead).
