Hello there my name is Rafael and this winter break we are planning to go europe !! YAY We just got back from paris and it was amazing. But I was looking into Spain ( Barcelona or Madrid. or Italy " Rome of course. In the group there are four of us. Three of us are of Latin American decent therefore we speak spanish the fourth person speaks italian. Therefore when it comes to language there is no problem. We know all the problems with pikpockets therefore we dont need that explained. If anyone can help with which of those cities we should visit please help. we know that in December there is less daylight but it doesnt matter we are going to relax and have fun. We are planning atleast 10 days so the city we choose has to have enough things for us to do. Lastly has anyone been to these cities in December I Checked Weather Underground to see past weather but I always like to hear from those who have been. Of course you cant predict weather but I am just like that. Oh I forgot to mention my dream city Lisbon but I dont know because in the group its just me that wants to go give talk about that city to. Lastly any hotels in excellent will be appreciated. Thanks in advance to all of you who will answer and help thanks !! :) :) Rafael.
A couple of years ago I think it snowed in Madrid during the winter, but I don't think that's the norm. Have fun!
I personally think 10 days is too much in barcelona or madrid, I would pick Rome if only going to one place for ten days having been to all three. Good luck.
hey gail i was planning to do both cities know what do you think. Have you on during this time of year.
Sorry, only been to Madrid and Barcelona in November and Rome in June. Of course Rome was warm. Barcelona and Madrid were actually pleasant, only needed a sweater at night. Why not then split time with 5 in Madrid and 5 in Barcelona, that is what we did and worked out well. Memory is fading but I don't remember it getting too dark too early in Spain. We rented an apartment in Barcelona through either laterooms or latestays.com and it was great, half block off Las Ramblas for 100 euro night and slept 5 with kitchen. See if you can find them on the web. Good luck.
gail do you have any pictures from that trip. and i know everything about bcn know what ca you do in mad. instead of museums. thanks for the responses
Rafael, we did Portugal in Dec in 2007 (XMass) and absolutely loved it. If you stay in southern Portugal and So Spain the weather can be fantastic. We were wading in the surf on the Portugese Algarve beaches. We stayed in Lisbon and then Tavira in the Algarve. We used a rental car, and found the driving to be super easy. When we ventured North to Porto, it was raining like heck, but we had a great fun tasting Port in Porto, and visiting some of the other local towns. Our good friends, who live in Germany, did So. Spain at that same time and also enjoyed it. Both of us used Rick's Spain/Portugal book to plan our journeys. It was "right -on-the-money. Pick it up and do some reading. You could do the southern coasts of both Portugal and Spain, and you would have a good chance of some decent weather.
