Spain hotels and star ratings

My husband and I will be traveling to Spain and I wanted some clarification on 3 star, 4 star, and 5 star designations on hotels. What do the different designations really get you and is the difference between a 4 star and 5 star worth it?

Star recommendations are a measure, not of the quality of the accommodations, but what's available. In Spain, each of the 19 autonomous regions has its own standards, but generally they deal with room size, ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, elevator, staffing, restaurant present, and the like. So you can run across a 3-star that may be wonderful...and a 5-star that may strike you as crappy an inefficient.
Frankly, I don't see enough differences between 4 and 5-stars to pay the extra....most of their websites should list all the amenities, but at that level, they'll all have restaurants, elevators, air conditioning, and such.
