Spain Honeymoon

What towns should I stay in along Costa Brava, Spain if I want to just relax on a sandy beach steps from my hotel, avoid flocks of tourists, and unwind at the beginning of a honeymoon?

Comments on the rest of my itinerary welcomed (food, wine, and sights are priorities after the unwind, been to Madrid already)

So far our rough intinerary is:
7th, 8th, 9th and 10th of September: TAMARIU or PLATJA D’ARO or other locations in Costa Brava

11th of September: Fly to BILBAO, rent car

12th and 13th of September: LAGUARDIA, wine country

14th, 15th and 16th of September: SAN SEBASTIAN, fly back to Barcelona ($50 USD flights)

17th, 18th and 19th of September: BARCELONA

20th of September: Departure

How you thought about staying southwest of Barcelona? We really enjoyed our stay in Sitges - hotel on the beach in a nice community. It's only a 45 minute train ride to Barcelona from here. A bit of an artist colony with lots to offer.

Since I really enjoy butting in where I ain't invited:

'avoid flocks of tourists' and Costa Brava' are really hard to get out of your mouth at the same time

San Sebastian has a nice hunk of beach

there's a slew of uncrowded beaches east of the mouth of the river at Bilbao

you can drive from Barcelona to Bilbao in half a day, make it a full day and you can stop in Guernica and Pamplona -- or do one on the way up and one on the way back

I would be careful about Platja d'Aro too late in the year. Check and see if you are out of "season". I stayed in Platja in early May one year and almost EVERYTHING was shut down because it was off season.

I would 2nd the comment about Sitges. It's lovely and you can actually take the train into Barcelona from there. You could consider it for your visit to Barcelona.

The Costa Brava, though, is worth a visit. I would recommend the Parador at Aiguablava. It will cost you more, but its absolutely lovely. They are located in a secluded cliff right next to the sea, have a private beach and a very nice facility with full service restaurant (great food), swimming pool, gardens, etc. If you can squeeze the extra cost into your budget, you should, especially for a honeymoon.
