Does anyone have experience with those places that recruit volunteers to speak English with Spanish professional and, in exchange, provide your lodging and meals free? I would like to combine a week doing that with one of the Rick Steves tours, but it would be good to know if these programs are for real.

Yep...been there 4 times, and go back every year for at least one program. An unforgettable experience, which has given me a whole raft of new friends in Spain and elsewhere. PM me for further details.

Ditto. I did it last year through Pueblo Ingles. Check website at MorethanEnglish.com. I should warn you the days are full and you work from 9 in the morning until after midnight but it is a blast and totally rewarding. I HIGHLY recommend it.
