Spain for teen with a peanut/tree nut allergy?

I'm sending my son to Spain with EF Tours for spring break in April 2011. He'll be 14. He has a life-threatening peanut allergy and milder allergies to tree nuts. He's traveled in Europe before, always with us, and has the nut allergy translation cards, carries epinephrine and benadryl, and is generally very cautious. Has anyone had experience traveling to Spain with this type of allergy? Was it hard to find safe foods? (I haven't been to Spain since I was in my 20s, but I'm an avid cook, and my Spanish cookbooks contain recipes with lots and lots of nuts!)

I think this would be a good question to post over on Trip Advisor where you have people (destination experts) who live in these areas and will be able to answer this question accurately. For something like this, you need very correct advice.
