Driving from Madrid through Tarifa etc. to Granada and then flying to Barcelona appears simpler than train or bus, or am I mistaken?
Remember airline fares haven ascended big-time in the last 12 months. So do the math, flying vs train first.
Depends on your definition of simpler. There are direct trains from Madrid to Granada, taking about five hours, and a night train with sleepers from Granada to Barcelona. See bahn.de for train schedules. You can probably get driving times from http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Routes
Flying Granada to Barcelona is certainly quicker and simple. about 1.5 hour flight, and was about half the cost of the overnight train when we did it last spring.
Gretchen I agree with Ruth. Check out the discount airlines from Granada to Barcelona on www.skyscanner.com. Often, if you buy long before your flight, the cost will be less. HOWEVER, there are serious restrictions on size, no. and weight of your luggage. And the penalties are big money! Also no preassigned seats unless you pay, etc., etc. Read the fine print. So add up all the costs before you buy. Otherwise, they are a good buy. Bobbie
