Spain Canary Islands Travel

My wife and I are planning a trip to Spain and I was thinking of adding the Canary Islands to the plan. We were thing Madrid and Barcelona with a side to the Canaries. General question about the islands- Where to go? We have timeshares and there seem to be plenty of availability on Tenerife. There is the north side and the south side from what I gather. Which is preferable. We were thinking of sometime next June or push it back to early September 2014. Weather wise which is better.Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

I was just on Tenerife a few weeks ago for holiday break. The south part is more populated with hotels, restaurants, etc. It's still a decent area, the buildings aren't very tall, so it's not city by any means. In the Arona area you can chose to be on the beach (near or away from the main town areas) or on the hillside away from the beach and crowds. There's a lot of variety depending if you're looking for quiet, relaxing or bars, shopping, etc. I prefer Sept, since the water will have warmed by then. If you have the time, it's a super easy flight on Condor, Tui, or one of the other charter companies. I liked it, the island is seriously just a volcano with towns perched on the ocean areas, very interesting. If you want a resort closer on Spain mainland, consider Mallorca island or down the coast around Marbella.
