Spain-buying a mobile phone at an Orange Store

When I arrive in Madrid in 2 weeks I plan to buy a phone at an Orange store. Am I correct in assuming that I then have a phone number that I can give to friends in Spain as well as at home in the U.S. so they can call me? Will it only work in Spain? From Spain I will be going to Morocco and Paris for a few days. Also, what do I do with the phone when I am done with it? Thanks for the help,
Shoshana

Yes, you will have a phone number once you purchase the phone and SIM. It will work wherever, but your time might run out faster when out of the country. I paid 9 euro for a SIM card (with 9 euro credit on it) when I was in Madrid, and I used it for local calls and to call home to the US three times (not really long calls, but I wasn't watching the clock, either). I did not use up all of the credit. You can save the phone for future trips. You will just need to buy a new SIM card the next time you use it, because the original one will probably have expired by then (they are good for 10 months).

Hi,
Thank you. That is helpful. So it sounds like I can use it in Morocco but if I run out of minutes, I won't be able to get more for that phone there;is that correct? Shoshana
