We arrive in Madrid, then plan to go south for a week, but would like to go to Barcelona, then have to head back to Madrid for the flight home. What's the best way to get from Southern Spain, near Granada to Barcelona. Traveling with 2 adults and 2 teenagers.
Vueling and Spanair fly Granada-Barcelona and, if you book early enough, you can get some excellent fares. The only other alternative is a night train, which can get expensive.
Returning to Madrid, the AVE fast train is the best...under three hours. Get cheaper tickets up to 62 days in advance at www.renfe.es. It's only in Spanish, but we can help you get through it. You will be able to print your tickets at home, and save the pdf file on your computer. I would suggest you spend your last night in Madrid....just in case....
we will also fly Spanair from Granada to Barcelona, the 8;30 pm flight. otherwise, far to drive, time consuming with trains ( always thru Madrid). we booked tickets for around $78 each I think, about a month ago.
If not too late you might consider an open jaw into Madrid and home Barcelona. Save the expense of back tracking. If too late, consider it for your next trip.
Fly. The train goes back through Madrid and the trip from Granada to Madrid is not all high-speed. You'll spend a full day taking the train. Compare that to the money cost of flying and having that day for your sightseeing.
