My husband and I are planning our first trip to Europe and are crazy excited, but fairly clueless. Once you account for one day of travel on either end, we're left with 13 days in June 2014 to be spent in Spain and the Bavaria region of Germany (probably 8-9 in Spain and 4-5 in Germany). My biggest question is how feasible is it to visit multiple locations in Spain during that timeframe? I don't want to be in transit the whole time, but would love to see the Barcelona/San Sebastian area, Sevilla, and Ribadeo (far NW corner, the pics I saw of Playa de las Catedrales took my breath away). One item very high on our list is finding a great beach. The stone arcs are just amazing...so different from anything I've seen before! Germany's easier, we're both dying to see Fussen and spend some time in the German countryside (maybe Oberstdorf, Lindau or Garmisch-Partenkirchen as well if time permits?) Are we being foolish in trying to see so much? Do I have to pick Barcelona/Ribadeo or Barcelona/Sevilla? Any other great beaches in Spain? And does anyone know of a good place to hike, kayak, or snorkel in Spain?
Ribadeo does look lovely. With that short amount of time, I think you must skip Sebvilla. It will be VERY hot there in June, anyway. Make you main flights from th eUS open-jaw, into Barcelona and out of Munich. Landing in Barcelona, spend 3 nights, then take the train to San Sebastian/Donastia. This take 5 hours 25 minutes and promo fares start at 25,45 euro. (That is Preferente Class). Spend a couple of nights there. Then you will want to rent a car to tour the coastal area to Ribadeo. Return the car to somplace with an airport with good connections to Munich (someone else will have to advise you on that). From Munich, catch a train to your base in Bavaria. With 4-5 days, you have time to see the Füssen castles, check out Oberstdorf, and do some amazing hikes at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The gorge hikes are unique and spectacular: http://www.hoellentalklamm-info.de/fotos.html (scroll down to the photos) http://www.partnachklamm-info.de/ (same) There is also a very easy via ferrata across the face of this beautiful mountain the Alpspitze: http://www.roberts-1.com/t/b08/de/s/c/
Thanks so much! If I can get a reasonably priced flight to Munich not too far from Ribadeo, this may work perfectly! Appreciate the help! ??
I think there is good hiking not far from Barcelona, especially at Montserrat. We didn't go, because the city itself was so much fun. Have a look at Hotel Jazz---great location, and a rooftop terrace and pool.
